Chats over quoits and pints in the pub, all in aid of raising awareness about the forthcoming Share Offer launch to buy shares to bring The Radnor Arms back into community ownership.
A huge thank you to everyone who came to our Share Offer Pre-Launch Weekend over Friday 1st March to Sunday 3rd March! The weekend was an opportunity for The Radnor Arms Community Benefit Society to discuss with locals from the village and beyond their thoughts, ideas and questions ahead of The Radnor Arms Community Share Offer launching this month. This is when everyone will be invited to realise their pledges and buy shares to bring the pub back into community ownership.
Our series of events kicked off with lots of really productive conversations with individuals, small groups and families in The Hub in the Old School in New Radnor on Friday over tea, coffee, cake and drinks. This was a chance for locals to hear in more detail over one-to-one conversations about what’s been happening since the pub closed in 2016, what a Community Benefit Society is and how the Share Offer will work.
It was also an opportunity for members of The Radnor Arms Community Benefit Society to find out more about what is important to members of our community and what you want from The Radnor Arms as a community pub in the future. The afternoon of flowing conversation was helped along with refreshments and traditional wooden Victorian bar games that the kids loved!
On Saturday, the fruitful conversations continued in the Community Hall. It was a good chance to talk over the timeline of events that’s happened so far with the community, including the purchase of The Radnor Arms on the 20th October 2022 for £115,000 (plus fees of £2,271) by an interim owner, where following being sold at auction, it was saved for the Community Benefit Society to purchase. A few months later, £114,500 was pledged by the community for the future purchase of the pub. Shortly after The Radnor Arms Hotel Community Benefit Society (the Society) was registered.
On Sunday, the clouds parted and the blue skies shone, just in time for drinks at The Radnor Arms at our pop up pub. The atmosphere was just brilliant as the community came together once again at the The Radnor Arms pub. With a pint in hand and smiles on faces everyone had a good time. This was a one off pop up - until we raise funds to purchase and renovate the pub - to invite you to buy shares and become a shareholder to bring the pub back into community ownership.
Whilst over the past year lots of work has been done to tidy up and remove asbestos from the building, it’s clear that since The Radnor Arms ceased trading in 2016, it has fallen into disrepair. Much of the existing building needs repair and renovation, including works to the roof, windows and a total interior refit. It is hoped that we can raise the funds for this work from the Community Share Offer, launching very soon!
The Community Share Offer is being launched this month, meaning we will now have the opportunity to purchase the pub, restore and reopen it as a thriving, welcoming pub serving its community. Thank you for such a brilliant weekend. There were so many good conversations and affirmations that the village is behind the work we've done together and want to be part of the future of The Radnor Arms as a community owned pub.
If you didn’t get a chance to pop down over the weekend, the posters on display with information about the Share Offer will remain on display for the community to see at The Hub, the Community Hall and The Radnor Arms. Do pop in! We’ll also be adding them to our website to make them accessible to everyone.
Thanks so much for a fantastic weekend and if you haven’t already, please do sign up to our newsletter to find out the latest news on the Share Offer and its launch date.
